International Women's Day: Celebrating 20 Years of Lisa Angel

By Francesca Leon - 7th March 2024

International Women’s Day

International Women’s Day, celebrated annually on 8th March, holds a significant place in our collective calendar. Originally proposed in 1910 by Clara Zetkin, the leader of the ‘Women’s Office’ for the Social Democratic Party in Germany. The inaugural International Women’s Day took place in 1911 and was initially observed in Germany, Austria, Denmark, and Switzerland. And in 1914 8th of March was formally adopted as the official date, later gaining recognition by the United Nations in 1975, amidst the second wave of feminism.

Celebrating 20 Years of Lisa Angel

Lisa Angel stands as an example of a female-led and predominantly female-operated enterprise. Our journey began in 2004, with an idea conceived and then carried out on the floor of Lisa’s living room. From those beginnings, Lisa Angel embarked on an upward trajectory, starting with appearances at local maker markets and craft fairs and gradually expanding to establish two physical shops alongside a thriving global e-commerce platform.

This International Women’s Day, we are thrilled to showcase Lisa Angel's story a testament to the vision, determination, and entrepreneurial joy of its namesake. Amidst an industry often dominated by male voices, Lisa Angel's success story underscores the immense potential and capabilities of women in business.

From navigating the challenges of entrepreneurship to embracing growth opportunities, Lisa Angel's journey encapsulates the essence of what International Women’s Day set out to achieve. It's a celebration not only of individual achievements but also of the collective strength and resilience of women worldwide.

Through sharing Lisa Angel's story, we aim to inspire and uplift women of all ages and backgrounds, encouraging them to pursue their dreams and carve their paths in the world of business. This International Women’s Day let's honour Lisa Angel and trailblazing women alike who continue to shape and redefine our socioeconomic landscape.
